Jeanne Catherine (Pritchard) Bartlo, 91, of Grand Island, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving children.
Jeanne lived a remarkable life marked by unwavering dedication and service to God, family and country, and will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
Jeanne led a devout life of service within the Catholic Church parishes of St. Paul's in Kenmore and St. Stephen's on Grand Island. Trusting always in the Lord, Jeanne was inspired by the Blessed Virgin Mary and strived to live in the Divine Will of God.
She grew up in Buffalo as the oldest of six children of Arthur and Marjorie Pritchard. Jeanne graduated from Bishop O’Hern High School in 1953 and later earned her degree as a registered nurse (RN) from Sisters of Charity Hospital in 1956.
Soon after, Jeanne married Noel E. Bartlo and the couple eventually settled in the Village of Kenmore where they raised eight children.
In 1984, with her family mostly grown, Jeanne embarked on a life of service in Kenmore and Town of Tonawanda government. She was elected trustee of the Village of Kenmore in 1985 and reelected in 1989. In 1992, she was elected to the Town of Tonawanda Council and served until her retirement in 1999. Jeanne was a popular and well-liked councilwoman due to her ability to listen to and follow-up on residents' ideas and concerns.
Jeanne and Noel later moved from Kenmore to Lakeland, Florida, and Grand Island.
Over the years, Jeanne served in many organizations. She was president of St. Paul's Home School Association, Mount St. Mary Academy parents' guild, and Zonta International of Kenmore. She was a member of the advisory board for the Women's Health Initiative Project at the State University of New York at Buffalo, and the Kenmore/Tonawanda Chamber of Commerce. In addition to holding elected office, Jeanne served as committeeperson for many years. She was a member of Kenmore Mercy Hospital pastoral care committee, St. Paul's R.C. Church pastoral committee, and vice chairman of the Erie County Foster Grandparent Advisory Council.
Tracing her lineage in North America to pre-revolutionary times, Jeanne was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), descended from ancestors who aided in the achievement of American independence.
In 1998, Jeanne was awarded the prestigious Susan B. Anthony Award by The Interclub Council of Western New York (ICC/WNY) – a coalition of women’s professional, service and civic organizations – honoring women like her who demonstrate exceptional dedication to advancing women's rights, leadership, and community service.
Jeanne is survived by her sister, Kathleen (Pritchard) Wicks; her brother, John Pritchard; and eight children: Linda (John) Botek, Mary (Gordon Kirkman) Quatroche, Teresa Murray, Monica (Wayne) Taylor, Patricia (R. Kevin) Stevick, Noel J. (Carol) Bartlo, Daniel J. (Leah) Bartlo, and John A. (Pamela) Bartlo. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Noel; her parents, Arthur and Marjorie (Pike) Pritchard; her sister, Marion (Pritchard) Deneen; and brothers, David Pritchard and Charles Pritchard.
