Tops Friendly Markets press release
Tops Friendly Markets proudly announced the successful conclusion of its 33rd annual Breakthrough T1D campaign, raising an impressive $350,136 to support type 1 diabetes (T1D) research, advocacy, and community support efforts. The campaign, which ran from April 5-25, surpassed its fundraising goal and continued a more than three-decade tradition of making a meaningful impact in the fight against T1D.
Customers and associates across Tops’ 151 stores throughout New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont came together to support the cause by purchasing the iconic paper sneaker at checkout for a $1 donation. This year’s sneaker featured Buffalo Bills long-snapper Reid Ferguson, whose family has a personal connection to T1D through his brother, Blake Ferguson.
Since launching the campaign in 1993, Tops has now raised more than $15 million for Breakthrough T1D, making the company one of the organization’s top corporate fundraising partners nationwide.
“For 33 years, our customers, associates and communities have shown incredible generosity in supporting Breakthrough T1D,” said Ron Ferri, president of Tops Friendly Markets. “Surpassing our goal and raising more than $350,000 this year demonstrates the power of community and our shared commitment to advancing research and bringing hope to families living with type 1 diabetes.”
Breakthrough T1D, formerly known as JDRF, is the leading global organization funding T1D research and advocating for therapies that improve lives while working toward cures for the disease.
