Adam Milton Garlapow passed away at home in Victor on the afternoon of Thursday, July 30, 2026, with family and loved ones by his side.

Adam is survived by his parents, Richard and Kathleen Garlapow; brother, Christian Garlapow; children, Ian and Alayna Garlapow; loving and caring partner, Rachel Bourn; ex-wife Rosemary Garlapow; and many loving extended family members and friends.

Born April 19, 1972, Adam led a rich and adventurous life that all who knew him were acutely aware (and envious) of.

A graduate of Grand Island High School, Adam earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University at Buffalo. Adam's professional life began as a geologist with Ecology and Environment Consultants, followed by teaching science at Batavia High School, and most recently working a job he thoroughly enjoyed as a petroleum transport driver for ARG Trucking.

A dominant force in the cycling world of the 1990s, Adam raced internationally, qualified for USA Olympic team trials, and was a NYS Empire Games champion. Adam’s other life pursuits included ice climbing, all-terrain skiing and snowboarding, skateboarding, Adirondacks wilderness camping, trout-slaying and deer hunting … to name a few. Fiercely independent, Adam heated his home with wood he chopped and made maple syrup from trees in his yard. Among all the glory, Adam was a dedicated and supportive father, proudest of his children, Ian and Alayna.

Adam’s recent return to the Catholic faith is a beautiful testament to God’s endless patience and mercy. We are deeply grateful Adam found this spiritual reconciliation and was welcomed home by his God.

Everyone who knew Adam knows how to honor him in the way he would most appreciate – living the good life and giving thanks, every day, to God for your blessings.
