Throughout this week, Lewiston laborers have been out along Center Street clearing massive snow piles caused by January’s snowstorms. In working to clear the roads and sidewalks, snow had accumulated to heights almost equaling the neighboring buildings.
Village Mayor Anne Welch said, “The large snow piles along Center Street were removed and deposited at Soluri Park thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Village of Lewiston Department of Public Works and the Town of Lewiston Highway Department. This will provide better and safer parking and access to the businesses.
“More snow is expected and we will continue to keep the roads plowed and the sidewalks open. We urge everyone to slow down and drive safely.”
Parts of Center Street have been limited or closed to accommodate snow removal.
Supervisor Steve Broderick said, “The Town of Lewiston Highway Department has done a great job this winter and I’m proud of the work they’re doing to help the village keep Center Street clear for our businesses.”

Below Water Street, at the waterfront, ice has been pulling out pilings from the docks. These areas will have to be repaired, once the weather permits.
