Wilma Ann Greenwood, age 96, of Ferry Village, Grand Island, passed away in the early morning on March 3, 2026, at LeRoy Village Green Nursing home.

Wilma was born July 2, 1929, in Buffalo, the fifth of nine daughters, to William and Mabel (Ott) MacDonald.

Wilma married Glenford J. Greenwood on Feb. 27, 1954, at St. Stephen’s Church on Grand Island. They were married until his death in 2003 – nearly 50 years.

Wilma had an incredible work ethic and held many jobs throughout her life. As a child, she worked for the DeGloppers on their farm, and after high school, she worked as a phone operator. After she and Glen married, they were deployed to Germany. After they returned to Grand Island with their young family, she could be found working alongside her husband, chopping wood, caring for their show fowl, and supporting the family business: Greenwood and Son Landscaping. Once her children were all in school, she began working for the U.S. Postal Service.

Wilma loved crafts and social outings. She was known for gifting everyone she knew with a crocheted afghan blanket. As a young woman, she played the bugle in the Drum Corps. She was a member of the home bureau and the bereavement committee at St. Stephen’s for many years. Wilma was incredibly generous and always had a gift tucked away for her grandchildren. She was also a wonderful baker, known for her endless supply of cookies, her special poppy seed bread, and for supplying the Village Inn with pies and Irish soda bread.

Remaining to cherish Wilma’s memory are her children: Christella (late Raymond) Gress, Linda (Terry) Cantwell, Glenford Jr. (Linda) Greenwood and Kathleen (late Kenny) Stein; her grandchildren: Christie (Gary) Lesser, Renee (Michael) Driskel, William (Jinhee) Garrison, Peter (Jessica) Garrison, Jade Greenwood, Benjamin Greenwood, KellyRose (Ben) Nichols and Elijah (Samantha) Stein; her great-grandchildren: Brent, Raelyn, Raymond, Dakota, Dylan, Abigail, Kenzie, Eliza and Olive; her sisters: Helen (late Bud) Haigh, Margaret (late Tom) Lee and Kathy (late Dale) McKenzie; and many cherished brother- and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Preceding Wilma in death are her parents; her husband; her sisters: Marion (Jerry) Lebica, Audrey (Albert) Parker, Joyce (Stuart) Neill, Leona (Truman) Stevens and Carol (Ed) Ganster; special Aunt Ruth (Marvin) Trim; and lifelong beloved neighbors the Williams family.

Family and friends of Wilma are invited to share in her Catholic Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 13, at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Church, 44 Lake St., LeRoy. Interment will be at St. Stephen’s Cemetery on Grand Island immediately following the funeral Mass.
