The Spill Your Creativity Culture Lab opened its doors with a red ribbon-cutting on Saturday at 400 West Ave., City of Lockport.

Creative and owner of the shop Sterling Carroll said the purpose of the SYC Culture Lab is to serve the community and all people for their creative needs. He noted he is almost 40 years old and often needs to express himself creatively. Carroll said he believes it’s the same for everyone, regardless of age.

“I believe it’s everyone, because for myself, I try to express myself in the same way,” he said. “I’m going on 40. So, if I’m going on 40 years old, it is likely happening to someone else roughly that age or older, or could be someone who’s 5 years old. They want to find something that they can express themselves with. That’s why I have Boomy the BoomBox and coloring books.”

As a crowd of almost 30 people gathered in front of the store, Carroll gave a short speech.

“I would like to welcome everyone to the SYC Culture Lab. Where it’s about fashion, art and music … we have tons of things for you to check out today,” he said. “We have the vinyl records, we have clothing … come check out Boomy the BoomBox.”

Carroll also sells beard oils, candles and soaps. He plans to have paint night classes and other networking events in the new shop.

City of Lockport Mayor John Lombardi III visited the SYC Culture Lab.

This is Carroll’s second shop in Lockport. The first was formerly in the Lockview Plaza overlooking the Lockport Locks. Carroll said he looked within Lockport for a larger space “Because this is my home. So, I make sure I’m here and that I create a family with my people who are around me, and then I give back to the community. That’s why I stayed in Lockport.”
