NYSUT celebrates member excellence at 2026 representative assembly

New York State United Teachers honored the extraordinary commitment and achievements of its members at the union's 55th representative assembly, NYSUT's annual policymaking convention.

“Across New York, NYSUT members continue to raise the bar in their professions and their communities,” NYSUT President Melinda Person said. “Their passion and leadership inspire us every day, and it’s a privilege to recognize these remarkable individuals. Congratulations to each of this year’s honorees.”

Nearly 2,000 delegates from every corner of the state gathered in Albany to celebrate the 2026 award recipients, whose accomplishments rose to the top among nominations from their colleagues: 

•“Not for Ourselves Alone:” The Sandy Feldman Outstanding Leadership Award 

  • Patricia Crispino, United Federation of Teachers 
  • Sara Rodland, Buffalo Teachers Federation 

•NYSUT Healthcare Professionals Members of the Year 

  • Constance F. Griffin, Valley Central Teachers Association 
  • Maria Paradiso, United Federation of Teachers 

•NYSUT Higher Ed Member of the Year 

  • James Werner, Westchester Community College Federation of Teachers

•NYSUT Retiree Members of the Year 

  • Paul F. Cole, Lewiston-Porter United Teachers
  • Sterling Roberson, United Federation of Teachers 

•NYSUT School-Related Professionals Members of the Year 

  • Karen R. McLean, Herricks Teachers Association
  • Naomi Rodriguez, United Federation of Teachers 

Delegates also recognized members named to this year's NYSUT Life Line Honor Roll and honored individuals and local unions for outstanding community service and outreach. A full list of this year’s honorees can be found in the RA 2026 awards booklet
