The Mount St. Mary's
Foundation recently received a national award in recognition of its successful
"Campaign for Women's Health" which is bringing state-of-the-art breast health
care to Mount St. Mary's and Niagara County. Ascension Health, the nation's
largest Catholic health system with more than 65 hospitals in 20 states and the
District of Colombia, announced that the foundation received the Sister Mary
Walter Boyle Excellence in Philanthropy Award. The award was presented to
Foundation Executive Director Lynn W. Catalano and Mount St. Mary's President
and CEO Judith A. Maness at a ceremony in Baltimore that included development
professionals from across the country.
The "Campaign for
Women's Health" was launched in June 2009 as a $1 million initiative to bring
advanced breast cancer detection to Niagara through digital mammography and
breast-specific gamma imaging, among other diagnostic equipment. Area breast
cancer survivor Mary Montani served as the honorary chair, and Robert
Minicucci, president of Health System Services and a past chairman of the
foundation board, was the campaign chairman. The foundation recently surpassed
its goal in cash, grants, and pledges.
