Submitted by the New York State Department of Transportation
The New York State Department of Transportation will host a public information meeting from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, pertaining to a proposed project to rehabilitate three bridges crossing the Erie Canal in Niagara County. The meeting will be held at the Middleport Fire Department, located at 28 Main St. The bridges include State Route 271 (Main Street) in the Village of Middleport, Slayton Settlement Road in the Town of Royalton, and North Canal Road in the Town of Lockport.
The open-house-style meeting will feature displays about the project, information on off-stie detours, and provide an opportunity for discussion with NYSDOT representatives who will be available to receive comments and answer individual questions. No formal presentation is planned.
The project, which is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2027, proposes to rehabilitate the three bridges utilizing off-site detours during construction to minimize impacts to the traveling public. The proposed off-site detours include:
•Main Street bridge: Passenger vehicles will use South Carmen Road, Watson Avenue, Church Street and Main Street. Truck traffic will use South Carmen Road and Telegraph Road.
•Slayton Settlement Road bridge: All vehicles will use Hartland Road and State Street.
•North Canal Road bridge: All vehicles will use Day Road and Groff Road.
