FeedMore WNY Press Release
With the number of people in need of food assistance in FeedMore WNY’s four-county service area increasing – and a recent cut in federal funding that will create a void of nearly 2 million pounds of food – FeedMore WNY needs community support to fulfill its mission of alleviating food insecurity. During the month of May, Western New Yorkers can help FeedMore WNY provide nutritious food and support to food-insecure community members through a variety of food drives and special events.
Starting today, the FeedMore WNY Foundation has launched its “Spring Into Action Food Drive” to replenish its inventories of nonperishable food items, since donations significantly decrease after the holiday season. FeedMore WNY distributes these food donations to its partner food pantries across Erie, Niagara, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties. Donations can be dropped off at FeedMore WNY’s warehouse at 91 Holt St., Buffalo, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Anyone who donates 50 or more pounds of food will receive a free bottle of MP Caroll Hardwood floor cleaner (while supplies last) to assist in their spring-cleaning efforts. For more information, visit https://www.feedmorewny.org/event/spring-into-action/.
On May 3, The Terrace at Delaware Park will host a “Derby Day Party” benefiting FeedMore WNY. The event begins at 5 p.m. at The Terrace, located at 199 Lincoln Parkway, Buffalo. Participants will enjoy a “Grand Kentucky” dinner buffet, bourbon and beer tastings, live music, a “Derby Day” hat contest and more. Tickets are $65 each and can be purchased here.
On May 10, the National Association of Letter Carriers holds its annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive. To participate, simply leave a bag of nonperishable food items near your mailbox on May 10 for your letter carrier to pick up during their route. All the donations will stay local and support area food pantries.
On May 21, the FeedMore WNY Foundation holds its annual “Sweet Expectations” fundraiser. Presented by Wegmans and James Desiderio Inc., “Sweet Expectations” takes place from 5-8 p.m. at Resurgence Brewing Co., located at 55 Chicago St., Buffalo. The event features delicious food and drinks from the area’s top culinary talents, plus a variety of entertainment including a wine pull and “Sweet Surprise” raffle with guaranteed prizes, a silent auction and brewery tours. General admission is $75 per person or VIP admission is $150 per person. Learn more and purchase tickets at https://www.feedmorewny.org/sweet-expectations-2025/.
Proceeds of the “Derby Day Party” and “Sweet Expectations” directly support FeedMore WNY’s vital programs and services that nourish Western New Yorkers of all ages.
