The University at Buffalo Center for the Arts announced “Less is More: An evening with Joss Stone” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1. Tickets go on sale May 9 and will be available online at ubcfa.org, Ticketmaster, or at the UBCFA ticket office.
This special performance is part of Stone’s “Less Is More” tour, offering audiences an intimate evening highlighting her dynamic vocals and stripped-back musical arrangements.
Since the release of her acclaimed debut album, “The Soul Sessions,” at just 16 years old, Grammy and Brit Award-winning artist Stone has captivated audiences worldwide with her powerhouse vocals. Two decades later, with nine studio albums and more than 15 million copies sold, she continues to showcase the extraordinary vocal range of a mezzo-soprano and contralto. Her soulful, genre-defying style has led to performances alongside legendary artists such as Stevie Wonder, Sting, Van Morrison, Gladys Knight and Herbie Hancock. She has also collaborated and contributed to albums for music icons such as Jeff Beck, Mick Jagger and Damien Marley, and has garnered over 1 billion streams in the U.S. alone.
“We’re honored to welcome Joss Stone to our Mainstage Theater this fall,” said Jamie Enser, executive director of the UB Center for the Arts. “An intimate evening like this, sharing her powerful vocals and remarkable range of musical styles, will be a memorable experience for our audience.”
Stone’s love of music stems back to her early childhood in England. She recalls that the first recording she owned was “Aretha Franklin: Greatest Hits,” which she received at age 10. Speaking to MTV News, Stone explained, “I kind of clicked into soul music more than anything else because of the vocals. You’ve got to have good vocals to sing soul music, and I always liked it ever since I was little.”
In recent years, Stone released her eighth studio album, “Never Forget My Love” (2022), created with Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart. She celebrated 20 years of music with her “20 Years of Soul” tour and live album in 2023, followed by the “Ellipsis Tour” in 2024. Her latest single, "Loving You," was released in August 2024, with a new studio album on the way in 2025.
