Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced Raymond J. Torres, 36, of no permanent address, was sentenced Monday morning before Erie County Court Judge James Bargnesi to 19 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. He was sentenced as a second violent felony offender.
On Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, at approximately 4:22 a.m., the defendant shot the victim with an illegal gun in the vicinity of 7th and Jersey streets in the City of Buffalo. The victim, 35-year-old Travis A. Martin, was taken by ambulance to ECMC where he was later pronounced dead.
In February 2025, Torres pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter in the first degree (class “B” violent felony). The defendant entered the plea to the charge in full satisfaction of the indictment.
Keane commends detectives Judy Walker and Adam Stephany of the Buffalo Police Department for their work on this case.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Justin H. Caldwell of the homicide bureau.
