Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced Abdulla Abdalla, also known as “Dooley,” 26, of Buffalo, was sentenced this morning before Erie County Court Judge Suzanne Maxwell Barnes. He received the maximum sentence of 25 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.
On Monday, June 20, 2022, at approximately 8:15 a.m., the defendant shot the victim with an illegal gun inside of an apartment on the 100 block of Grote Street in the City of Buffalo. The victim, 40-year-old Monroe J. Cross III, was taken by ambulance to ECMC where he later died from the injuries.
In November 2024, Abdalla pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter in the first degree (class “B” violent felony). The defendant entered a guilty plea to the charge in full satisfaction of the indictment.
Keane commends retired Det. Anthony Lapiana, retired Det. Erin McCarthy and Det. Judy Walker of the Buffalo Police Department for their work on this case, as well as Confidential Criminal Investigator Salvatore Valvo.
The case was prosecuted by Chief Patrick B. Shanahan of the vehicular crimes bureau and Assistant District Attorney William Fitzgerald of the felony trials bureau.
