Due to inclement weather, the Upward Niagara Chamber of Commerce announced Thursday it’s moving the Lewiston Smelt Festival back to the foot of the Griffon Brewery & Gastropub on South Water Street. The event will still begin at 6 p.m. Friday.

Smelt Fest was slated to take place at Academy Park. However, the new pavilion is not available due to infrastructure and seeding work taking place around its perimeter. Though a large tent had been rented and put on the park grounds, the Upward Niagara Chamber said the site would be too wet and muddy to practically host people for the summer’s first big get-together.

The Griffon Brewery & Gastropub was already set to prepare the small fried fish. It hosted the festival the past two years.
