Current single, ‘Oh Death,’ hits Top 5 at radio

Press Release

Ten-times-Platinum band MercyMe has announced the Aug. 8 release of their 12th studio project, “Wonder & Awe.”

Following “Always Only Jesus” in 2022, the 13-track selection finds the band collaborating with longtime producer Tedd T, who also serves as executive producer; as well as Brown Bannister, and new creative voices Josh Auer, Jarad Atherton and Carter Frodge. For the first time ever, the band also jumped in to co-produce all tracks.

The upcoming project’s lead single, “Oh Death,” is racing up the charts, currently sitting at No.3 on both the Billboard Christian AC and Mediabase Christian AC charts, No. 5 on Billboard Christian Airplay charts, and at No.6 on Mediabase Christian Audience. “Wonder & Awe's” lead single follows MercyMe's most recent No. 1 hits, "Then Christ Came feat. Phil Wickham" and "To Not Worship You," as well as the top five hit, "Always Only Jesus." The band has a whopping 50 No. 1 songs.

“One of the struggles within today’s church is the lack of awe," lead singer Bart Millard said of the new project. "Having access to virtually everything within the palm of our hands, where’s the joy in being surprised? Those moments that take our breath away. This album reflects where I am right now … longing for wonder and awe – actively seeking the wonder of God and learning not to take it for granted. We’re so excited to finally share it, and we hope it brings even a fraction of the joy and excitement it’s brought us.”

In support of the new release, MercyMe is embarking on an eight-date stint this fall with fellow hitmakers TobyMac and Matthew West from Sept. 25 through Oct. 5. Giving fans even more of the phenomenal in-person experience, “MercyMe Live 2025” is slated to continue through the fall with Natalie Grant and special guest Sam Wesley.

More about MercyMe

It continues to be a landmark time for the multi-Platinum, Grammy-nominated, multiple American Music Award, Billboard Music Award and Dove Award-winning band MercyMe, named Billboard’s Top Christian Artist of the 2010 decade, and with major motion picture based on Millard’s life (after he wrote the mega-hit song “I Can Only Imagine” after the loss of his father). In conjunction with the movie release, Millard penned a memoir and the band released a collection of hits titled “I Can Only Imagine – The Very Best Of MercyMe.”

Now, a second major motion picture based on MercyMe’s hit song, “Even If,” is currently in production and is set to release through Lionsgate on Feb. 20, 2026. The film will continue the inspirational true story of Millard and features J. Michael Finley reprising his role as Bart, alongside Milo Ventimiglia, Dennis Quaid, Trace Adkins and Sophie Skelton.

In 2018, MercyMe was named Top Christian Artist at the Billboard Music Awards, was the top winner at the fan-fueled K-LOVE Fan Awards (including a win for Artist of the Year), and was the GMA Dove Award-winner for Artist Of The Year. Since debuting in 2001, the band has sold more than 10 million units in CD, single and DVD sales, garnered more than 50 No. 1 multi-format radio singles, and had four consecutive mainstream radio hits.

MercyMe made history in 2014 as “I Can Only Imagine” surpassed 2 million digital downloads, making it the first song in Christian music to go Platinum and double-Platinum in the digital domain. The song is now certified five-times-Platinum.

In 2009, Billboard named MercyMe’s “Word Of God Speak” the No. 1 Song of the Decade and the group the No. 1 Artist of the Decade in both the Christian songs and Christian AC songs categories, recognizing them as one of the industry’s most notable talents. They have sold out venues throughout the U.S. and Canada, including Radio City Music Hall and Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
