Niagara County Department of Public Works (DPW) Commissioner Garret Meal announced the Wilson Burt Road Bridge over 18 Mile Creek in the Town of Newfane is expected to reopen this coming Monday, July 14, about three weeks ahead of schedule. The bridge has been closed since late-February.
“The bridge reopening represents the completion of phase 1 of this project, which included extensive bridge work and rehabilitation of one the concrete piers,” Meal said. “Phase 2 of the project is expected to begin in 2027.”
That phase, according to Meal, will be mainly focused on rehabilitation of the two other piers.
“The Wilson-Burt Road Bridge is the largest and most complex bridge in our inventory,” Meal said. “We appreciate the patience of the public as we make these necessary improvements to keep the bridge in a good state of repair to meet the long-term needs of the community.”
