The Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus, Western New York's premier symphonic chorus and winner of the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance, announces its search for a dynamic music director to lead the organization into its next chapter of artistic excellence.

This prestigious position offers a rare opportunity to guide one of the region's most respected cultural institutions, which has been enriching the Western New York community through high-quality choral music performances for nearly nine decades. The music director will shape the artistic vision, inspire the 140-voice ensemble, and engage the community through the transformative power of choral music.

The position is classified as a part-time, salaried role with competitive compensation and benefits. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, professional references, and performance recordings through the online application process. Application review begins Oct. 4.

The Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus is an independent symphonic chorus whose mission is to provide the highest-quality performances of choral music to the Western New York community while developing singers in the choral arts, through self-sponsored concerts and as the primary choral partner of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.

The music director serves as the artistic leader of the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus, responsible for shaping artistic vision and maintaining the highest standards of performance. Key responsibilities include leading weekly rehearsals, conducting performances with orchestral partners, overseeing auditions and chorus development, selecting diverse and engaging repertoire, and serving as a public artistic ambassador.

This visible and influential leadership role is suited to a conductor who is as passionate about musical excellence as they are about cultivating community through choral artistry. The position requires significant experience leading symphonic choral ensembles, advanced training in choral conducting, and strong collaborative skills for working with orchestras and community stakeholders.

This is more than a conducting position, it is an opportunity to shape the future of a historic choral organization, to collaborate with world-class musicians, and to inspire audiences through the transformative power of music! The BPC recently enacted its 2024-27 strategic plan, which is based on three key pillars of artistry, stewardship and community.
