Hands Healing Heroes Press Release & Photos
Nearly 400 people from across Western New York and beyond gathered Saturday at Niagara Falls High School for the 12th annual Veterans Appreciation Day, hosted by Hands Healing Heroes. Veterans and their families – some traveling more than two hours to attend – were treated to an afternoon of live entertainment, raffles, entrance gifts, and a hearty home-cooked meal – all free of charge, including haircuts and massages for the veterans.
One of the highlights of the event was the enormous raffle, which featured nearly 200 baskets – the largest to date. The majority of the items were generously donated by individuals, local businesses, and larger organizations.
“The outpouring of support never ceases to inspire me,” said Dr. Kristin Jacobsen, DC, founder and president of Hands Healing Heroes. “It speaks volumes about the compassion and generosity of this community. Together, we make sure our veterans know they are deeply appreciated.”

Alongside the entertainment and services, veterans had the opportunity to connect with meaningful resources. The Armed Forces Medal Search was available for applications, and several veteran support organizations were on-site to guide veterans and their families toward benefits and programs tailored to their needs
What began with just 60 attendees more than a decade ago has now grown into one of the largest gatherings of its kind in Western New York. The event has become an annual tradition for both the veterans and the volunteers who serve them.
“Our veterans are some of the most remarkable, humble and selfless people you could ever meet,” Jacobsen said. “Hearing their stories is a gift to us all. Every year, this event reminds us that freedom is not free, and it is a privilege to give back in this way.”
Hands Healing Heroes is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) dedicated to serving veterans and their families through appreciation events, scholarships, and community initiatives.
