Girl Scouts of Western New York is proud to celebrate International Day of the Girl and Give to Women and Girls Day throughout the month of October with a series of community events open to all Western New York girls, not just registered Girl Scouts.
International Day of the Girl is celebrated annually on Oct. 11 to raise awareness of the unique challenges that girls face across the world while promoting girls’ empowerment. As an organization that has always been dedicated to ensuring girls’ voices are heard and leadership is cultivated, the Girl Scouts of Western New York is proud to celebrate International Day of the Girl across our Western New York communities along with the 2025 theme, “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead.” On Saturday, Oct. 11, Girl Scouts of WNY and Stitch Buffalo invite all girls to join us at Stitch Buffalo from 1-4 p.m. to create a community art project. Register here.
Give to Women and Girls Day is also celebrated Oct. 11. It was designed to call attention to the critical fact that only 1.8% of charitable giving is directed to women’s and girls’ causes. To ensure girls have equitable access to education, career development and long-term financial sustainability, investment in organizations like Girl Scouts of Western New York that are led by and for women’s and girls’ causes are essential to build opportunity for future generations of leaders.
From Oct. 4-18, Girl Scouts of Western New York is hosting events open to all – both registered and non-registered Girl Scouts – to celebrate girls and recognize their achievements in making our community a better place.

“Girl Scouts of Western New York supports girls and young women to discover their strengths, grow their leadership skills, and work creatively to solve problems in their community,” said Girl Scouts of Western New York CEO Cara Biddlecom. “Investment in girls pays lifelong dividends – to her own financial wellbeing, to her family, to her community, and to future generations who benefit from the unique ways in which women and girls use their resources to lift others.”
Just over the past year, a group of local Girl Scouts received the Girl Scout Medal of Honor for their extraordinary heroism in saving an individual’s life while on a Girl Scout trip to Adelboden, Switzerland, in 2024; and 51 youth received the distinguished Girl Scout Gold Award along with over $50,000 in total investment to further their post-high school education.
