On Nov. 6, the Niagara Falls Police crash investigation unit responded to the intersection of Portage Road and Osborne Court to process the scene of a two-car accident with injuries.
At approximately 9 p.m., officers were attempting to pull over a 2020 Kia Sportage that was observed violating several vehicle and traffic laws. The driver of the Kia refused to stop and was heading east on Niagara Street. As it approached Portage Road, it struck a telephone pole on the corner of Osborne Court, spun around, and rolled head-on into a marked police vehicle, causing minor damage.
The passenger in the Kia, a 14-year-old female, was thrown from the car upon impact with the telephone pole. She was taken to Oshei Children’s Hospital for treatment of her unspecified, non-life-threatening injuries. The male driver, also 14 years old, was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center to be evaluated, but appeared to be unharmed. The driver of the police vehicle complained of pain to his wrist. He did not seek immediate treatment.
The Kia was reported stolen by the owner. The crash investigation unit is continuing its investigation, and the juvenile division will follow up on any criminal charges.
