Adding some fun to a friendly rivalry between the U.S. and Canada men’s hockey teams, Jim Diodati, the mayor of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Robert Restaino, mayor of Niagara Falls, New York, placed a wager on the 2026 Olympic gold medal game. After the U.S. claimed victory, Diodati owned up to his side of the wager and donated a case of Grade A Canadian maple syrup to nonprofit food pantry Heart, Love & Soul.
