Do you know of anyone who exemplifies the community spirit of Lockport, or who promotes the heritage and preservation of the historic Erie Canal? Then they are deserving of your nomination for the prestigious Key to the Locks award!
For 21 years, the Niagara History Center has recognized and celebrated those who have given back to their community through service, initiative and tenacity, improving the lives of all Lockportians, which, by extension, improves the lives of all Niagara County residents and residents across Western New York.
This great city and region may have been born from and on the Erie Canal, but it is her citizens, and their tireless actions and thoughtful service, which continues to mold and shape her indelible spirit for generations to come.
The ceremony to recognize this year’s recipient of the award will take place at 10 a.m. May 16 at the Erie Canal Discovery Center, 24 Church St.
Nomination forms can be picked up from the Niagara History Center’s main campus located at 215 Niagara St., or downloaded from www.niagarahistory.org under the events page. The deadline for submission is April 20.
Celebrate your fellow peers for their generosity and service to the community, especially as this year marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of the United States of America, a time to reflect on our shared civic duty to our fellow man. Nominate those members of your community who you feel have gone above and beyond.
