Submitted by the Niagara County District Attorney’s Office

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced Charles Jackson III, age 19, of Niagara Falls, was sentenced by County Court Judge Caroline Wojtaszek to spend the next 20 years in prison for his conviction of the crime of manslaughter in the first degree. Jackson previously admitted to shooting 26-year-old Michael Hathaway, to death, behind Hathaway’s home in Lockport on Nov. 20, 2023.

Seaman said, “Unfortunately, the defendant’s decision to use extreme violence in a situation where it was completely unnecessary cost Mr. Hathaway his life, and the defendant the next 20 years of his life. There was no reason for this to have been the outcome.”

The cases were investigated by the Lockport Police Department and prosecuted by First Assistant District Attorney Doreen Hoffmann and Assistant District Attorney Carrington Crossley.
