Independent Health Foundation press release
More than 5,000 people are expected to descend on Delaware Park next month as the Independent Health Foundation gears up for its 38th annual “Kids Run,” presented by Wegmans, on Saturday, June 6 – one of Western New York’s largest group fitness events.
Registration is now open through May 22, with capacity expected to fill up quickly. For details on how to register, visit www.kidsrunbuffalo.com.
“ ‘Kids Run’ is more than a race – it’s about staying healthy, being active, getting outside, and kicking off summer on the right foot,” said Carrie Meyer, executive director of the Independent Health Foundation. “As we enter into our 38th year, we’re proud to continue growing this event, which would not be possible without the support of our community and partners.”This free event features a 1.8-mile loop on Ring Road, open to walkers and runners of all ages.
A mini-dash is available for children ages 2 to 5. Participants ages 6 to 18 can register for a timing chip to receive personal race results and compete for trophies across age categories. Those who preregister will receive an official race number by mail.
The event is located in the Colvin Green Space, near Colvin Boulevard and Amherst Street.
Prerace festivities include a DJ Milk dance session, an animal show by Nickel City Reptiles & Exotics, interactive soccer activities from Soccer for Success, and fun activities at the Wegmans tent. Following the races, attendees can enjoy healthy snacks, music and an awards ceremony.
Training starts May 13
Young runners can prepare for race day through a partnership with Rolly Pollies. “Running with Rita!” is a free, four-week video training launching Wednesday, May 13, covering stretching, endurance and race preparation. New episodes drop every Wednesday and will be available on the Independent Health Foundation’s YouTube channel.
