The Niagara County Department of Public Works announced Ewings Road, between McKee Road and Route 78 (Lockport-Olcott Road), will close Monday, May 18, for work on the bridge over 18 Mile Creek. Detour signs will be posted directing motorists to use McKee, West Creek, Ide and Lockport-Olcott roads. The road is expected to reopen in mid-August.
The rehabilitation of Ewings Road bridge over 18 Mile creek includes Class A and D concrete repairs on the substructures; replacement of the fixed and expansion bearings with elastomeric bearings; replacement of the existing bridge deck joints with armor-less bridge joints; and spot repair and overcoating the existing painted steel.
This bridge rehab work is being performed under a federal-aid contract with a value of approximately $720,000.
“Once again, DPW will be working on several bridges across the county, and we appreciate the public’s patience with detours,” said Garrett Meal, DPW commissioner. “As always, we ask motorists to pay close attention to signage and obey work zone speed limits for the safety of workers and themselves.”
