Press Release

Renowned singer-songwriter Billy Ocean is set to captivate audiences at the Avalon Theatre on Nov. 1. The showtime is 9 p.m. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, June 21, through www.ticketmaster.ca.

“Billy Ocean has the vocal talent, energy and a string of pop and soul hits from the ’70s and ’80s that guests will get to see at the Avalon Theatre this November,” said Cathy Price, vice president of marketing, Niagara Casinos.

Billy Ocean has proven himself to be one of the most hardworking performers on the live stage, touring the world to an ever-growing enthusiastic audience. Born in Trinidad, Ocean settled in London’s East End when he was just 7 years old. The calypso crazy kid soon discovered the soulful talents of artists such as Otis Redding and Sam Cooke, as well as pop groups like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, leading him to spend much of his study time in the music room.

Ocean’s first hit was the 1976 single “Love Really Hurts Without You.” In the following year came U.K. No. 2, “Red Light Spells Danger.” There were more hits in the ’80s, including three U.S. No. 1s: “Caribbean Queen (No More Love On The Run),” “There’ll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry)” and “Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car.” But Ocean is probably best known for “When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going.”

The artist has received numerous accolades, including a Grammy Award for “Caribbean Queen (No More Love On The Run).” He is one of Britain’s most commercially successful artists, having sold more than 30 million records worldwide.
