This year’s Falkner Park free summer concert series in Youngstown kicks off Friday, July 5. The free, family-friendly series takes place in Falkner Park and, organizers said, “is the perfect addition to extend fourth of July holiday celebrations.”

Opening night will feature a return of local favorites, the Mackenzie Highlanders Pipes and Drums. Performances are scheduled to run on eight Fridays during the summer, from July 5 to Aug. 23.

These concerts, begun in 2001 under former mayor Neil C. Riordan, are a collaborative effort between the Village of Youngstown and local volunteers. They’re completely free to attend and made possible through donations from sponsors.

Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, since public seating is limited. Music will begin at 6:30 p.m. (unless otherwise specified) and wraps up by 8:30 p.m.

The full concert schedule includes:

√ Friday, July 5: Mackenzie Highlanders Pipes and Drums

√ Friday, July 12: 2nd Time Around

√ Friday, July 19: Custode and Parisi

√ Friday, July 26: The Jerry Andres Band

√ Friday, Aug. 2: Joe and the Schmoes

√ Friday, Aug. 9: Emerald Isle

√ Friday, Aug. 16: The Taverners

√ Friday, Aug. 23: Waterstreet Quartet

Falkner Park is located at 340 Main St. Limited parking available. The park is also accessible using the Discover Niagara Shuttle service.
