Eight Days of Hope Press Release
Eight Days of Hope (EDOH)-Buffalo is back for its fifth annual outreach – this year providing 100 families with free home repairs in the Ellicott District.
From Saturday, July 20, to Saturday, July 27, over 1,500 volunteers and over 50 organizations will be volunteering in the City of Good Neighbors. Volunteers will work on projects such as roofing, painting, window installation, landscaping and porch repairs.
“Throughout the last five years, it has been a joy to watch businesses, churches and volunteers from Western New York and beyond come together to serve this community – my own hometown! Our outreach in Buffalo is one of my favorites because of the hope-filled spirit that resonates throughout our city during the outreach and long after we are done,” said Stephen Tybor III, EDOH president and CEO.
EDOH-Buffalo launched in 2019 in the University District, serving 375 families. In 2021, EDOH helped 202 families in the Masten District. In 2022, EDOH helped 197 families in the Fillmore District. Last year, in 2023, EDOH helped 475 families in the Lovejoy District.
“Individuals all across Western New York truly embody what it means to care for one another,” EDOH Buffalo Director Kim Lackey said. “I love watching how our community unites to make Buffalo better, one home at a time. We are so grateful for everyone involved, from the City of Buffalo to the councilwoman’s office to the volunteers who travel from across the United States. We are better together, and this outreach is proof of that!”
Volunteers from 37 states and Canada will be joining EDOH to serve in the Ellicott District. Additionally, EDOH is hosting a free concert for volunteers, and the general public, to attend. Terrian will be live at Elim on Friday, July 26 (7 p.m.).
The City of Buffalo provided a $750,000 grant from the city’s American Rescue Plan Funding (ARP). The funds are being administered and monitored by the City of Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency. In additional, EDOH-Buffalo 2024 is possible due to the support and involvement of Ellicott District Councilwoman Leah Halton-Pope.
“I am so excited to have Eight Days of Hope come to the Ellicott District,” Halton-Pope said. “Their reputation for transforming neighborhoods is well-deserved, and I am confident that their presence will bring significant change to our very diverse community. This is a unique opportunity for us to come together, uplift our neighborhoods who were selected, and create a stronger, more vibrant Ellicott District. I look forward to witnessing the hardworking volunteers and the lasting impact Eight Days of Hope will bring to not only Ellicott but the City of Buffalo.”
