The Western New York Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association is partnering with the YMCA and Catholic Health to host a free brain and body wellness conference from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at the Lockport YMCA, located at 5833 Synder Drive.
The conference is part of the "One More Reason" campaign, a statewide initiative with the Alliance of New York State YMCAs and Alzheimer’s Association chapters throughout the state, to raise awareness of why a healthy lifestyle benefits not only overall well-being, but also lowers the risk of Alzheimer's disease and cognitive decline.
“June is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month, which is the perfect time to launch the ‘One More Reason’ campaign, as the Alzheimer’s Association shares the message about the ways healthy lifestyle habits can benefit brain health and reduce the risk of dementia,” said Courtney Sipes, director of community engagement for the WNY chapter.
Attendees at the brain and body wellness conference on June 26 will enjoy a free light dinner as they learn how factors such as regular physical activity, adequate sleep, maintaining a healthy weight and diet, staying mentally active, and managing chronic conditions can be beneficial for brain health.
Speakers will include Amy Kostek, PT, ASC-BC, stroke program coordinator for Catholic Health, who will address the connection between body and brain health; and Paula Bidwell, a registered and certified dietitian nutritionist (RDN/CDN), who will review the key lifestyle factors, including diet, which have been identified as playing a significant role in brain health.
Registration is required for the conference and can be done online at bit.ly/AlzLockportJune26 or by calling 800-272-3900.
