American Legion Post No. 1465 Press Release
On Saturday, Oct. 4, American Legion Post No. 1465 will sponsor a slideshow presentation by the internationally renowned lecturer Paul S. Valasek on Gen. Haller’s WWI “Blue Army.”
Valasek is a three-time graduate of Loyola University of Chicago and is the author of books “Haller’s Polish Army in France” (three volumes) and “Titanic-Ocean Tragedy.” He is said to have the most comprehensive database of the Army, with over 3 million facts accumulated to date, making available long-lost and obscure material detailing the formation of this fighting force of over 23,000 Polish-Americans in WWI and the subsequent Polish-Soviet War of 1919-21.
This presentation is a follow-up to the unveiling of a monument erected by the post to honor the 93 soldier volunteers and three nurse volunteers from Niagara Falls who helped free Poland from over 100 years of foreign rule. That monument can be seen at the Holy Trinity Church Complex in the 1400 block of Falls Street in Niagara Falls.
The presentation will take place a 1 p.m. at the American Legion Cadille Post located in the Niagara Falls City Market, the entrance of which is located on the corner of 18th Street and Pine Avenue. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Joe Grabka at 716-622-4211.
