There is a visible new element to the exciting atmosphere Western New York sports fans enjoy in downtown Buffalo – and there was a tailgate-type feel in the air this morning, as officials and team members from Seneca Resorts & Casinos were joined by Buffalo athletes, sports fans and community members to unveil an original mural that celebrates hometown professional sports teams and the players, personalities, fans and community that make every game an event.

The mural was unveiled at 106 Michigan Ave., across from Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino. It faces KeyBank Center.

“There are no fans anywhere who bring the passion and excitement the way Buffalo fans do,” Seneca Resorts & Casinos President and CEO Kevin Nephew told the assembled crowd, many wearing Buffalo team jerseys. “We are fans just like all of you, and we want everyone to know it. Buffalo fans wear our pride on our sleeves. Well, we needed something bigger than a sleeve. We wanted to come up with a way to say loud and proud how much we support our teams.”

The 65-foot mural is an original artistic creation by Nickey Sereluca, who works in the advertising department at Seneca Resorts & Casinos. It pays homage to the Buffalo Bandits, Buffalo Bisons, Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bills, and includes representations of each team, notable personalities, and things that are uniquely Buffalo – Including wings, Bison dip, and Cheerios.

“I wanted this to be a visual love letter to our community,” Sereluca said. “This is a piece made by a fan, for the fans.”

The mural unveiling kicked off an exciting day of Buffalo professional sports, with the Buffalo Sabres facing off against the Colorado Avalanche in KeyBank Center, and the Buffalo Bills taking on the Atlanta Falcons on “Monday Night Football.”

“There’s nothing like gameday in Buffalo. We love being part pf the energy and excitement here in the Cobblestone District,” Nephew said. “I hope the mural will be an integral part of the fan experience and atmosphere.”
