MAHLE will add 11 new jobs when $6.8 million project is complete
Empire State Development Press Release
Empire State Development (ESD) announced MAHLE, a leading international development partner and supplier to the automotive industry providing components to major automotive manufacturers across North America, will undergo a $6.8 million expansion at its Niagara County facility. The project, located in Lockport, will support at least 11 new jobs and retain 226 jobs in the state-of-the-art manufacturing space.
“MAHLE, a community-dedicated company doing business across the globe, is one of the top performers of Western New York’s manufacturing economy,” said ESD President, CEO and Commissioner Hope Knight. “With a highly skilled workforce and plans for adding a new research and testing facility, the company is in an excellent position to create more jobs and products, and to grow the regional economy.”
Founded in 1920, MAHLE is headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany, and supplies customers in both passenger car and commercial vehicle sectors, employing more than 67,000 people across the globe. Today, one in every two vehicles globally is equipped with MAHLE components.
The Lockport expansion project consists of relocating a research and testing center from Michigan to Niagara County at 350 Upper Mountain Road. The center will contain a wide range of capabilities to efficiently test thermal management products driven by consumer comfort. The added customer value will be visible by ensuring that vehicles and components meet the highest standards of performance, safety, durability and innovation. This investment at the Lockport plant will complement the 226 employees currently engaged in automotive-related research and development, strengthening this WNY location for continued workforce investment within MAHLE’s global footprint.
ESD is incentivizing MAHLE to continue its growth in Niagara County by providing up to $250,000 in Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits in exchange for job creation commitments.
“We sincerely appreciate the strong support from state and local officials. Their partnership plays a vital role in enabling our growth and strengthening our long-term commitment to the region,” said Stefan Land, vice president thermal and fluid systems, MAHLE North America.
