New space dedicated to homeless veterans

Niagara Gospel Mission unveiled its new “Independence Suite” on Friday. The dedicated housing space is designed to serve and honor homeless veterans in the Western New York community.
Local community leaders, veterans and elected officials gathered to celebrate this milestone, which marks another step forward in NGM’s ongoing mission to provide hope, shelter and support for men experiencing homelessness.
The Independence Suite features 10 private bedrooms and a comfortable lounge area, offering a safe, sober and supportive environment for veterans enrolled in the Mission’s transitional housing program. This specialized space was created to help veterans rebuild stability, regain independence, and transition successfully back into the community.
“We have a steady flow of homeless veterans who come through our doors – over 10% of our residents have served our country,” said John Cooper Jr., executive director of Niagara Gospel Mission. “The Independence Suite allows us to give back in a meaningful way to our fellow service men who were willing to sacrifice their life for us.”
The new space was made possible through the support of local donors, volunteers and community partners who share the Mission’s commitment to honoring and serving veterans. NGM was excited to kick off celebrating Veterans Day weekend with this special event. All NGM’s three main programs now have their own distinct spaces for veterans.
NGM has named its veterans track the “Re-Deploy” program. This initiative seeks to aid the veterans of Western New York who are struggling with homelessness, post-traumatic stress, suicidal ideations, combat trauma, spiritual emptiness, and other service-related struggles, through the Gospel.
Founded on the belief that every person deserves dignity and compassion, NGM also continues to expand its reach through emergency shelter, meals, clothing, addiction recovery, and transitional housing programs – all aimed at helping men in crisis find lasting transformation through faith and community.
