Teaming with Community Action of Orleans and Genesee County for drive up & drop off event
Batavia Downs Press Release
Batavia Downs President and CEO Byron Brown, and the Western Region Off-Track Betting Corp. board of directors, in partnership with the Community Action of Orleans & Genesee, announced they are sponsoring a holiday food donation drive from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.
Brown said, “The need is great every year during the holiday season, and this year the need may be even greater with the current economic circumstances. At Batavia Downs, we care about our friends and neighbors, and we are grateful to partner with Community Action to help those in need who live in Genesee and Orleans county. I’m asking all of you to join me here at Batavia Downs on Nov. 14 and bring nonperishable food items.”
Items that are being collected include rice, pasta, boxed macaroni & cheese, instant oatmeal, instant potatoes, canned vegetables, canned tuna, canned chicken, canned fruits, crackers, cereal, granola bars, peanut butter, ramen noodles and other nonperishable food items.
Ryan Lasal, strategic director of children’s services/special projects for Community Action of Orleans and Genesee County, said, “It’s tremendous to get outreach like this. It’s rare that we have a business of this size and scope reach out to us and ask how they can help. It speaks to Batavia Downs and their willingness to help the community.”
If you are dropping off food on Thursday, you are asked to pull up in front of the blue shelter in the main parking lot located directly across the street from the front entrance of Batavia Downs. From there, staff members will help take the donations from your vehicle.
If you are unable to drop off items on that day, you can drop off food donations in the lobby of Batavia Downs starting through 6 p.m. Friday.
Batavia Downs Gaming & Hotel is located at 8315 Park Road.
