Travel advisory: Empty truck and trailer restrictions in WNY

Due to the pending snow and ice event in Western New York, the state Department of Transportation will be restricting empty trucks and trailers on the following roadways until further notice.

NYSDOT highways:

  1. State Route 5 (Buffalo Skyway): Church Street to Tifft Street
  2. State Route 400: I-90 to State Route 16
  3. State Route 219: I-90 to State Route 39
  4. I-86: Pennsylvania line to Exit 23 (State Route 219) 

Additionally, empty trucks and trailers will be banned from traveling on the New York State Thruway (I-90) from Exit 53 (Buffalo – I-190) to the Pennsylvania state line (both directions). 

Additionally, State Route 5, including the Buffalo Skyway, is closed in both directions from I-190 to State Route 179 (Milestrip) until further notice, due to high winds.

The truck and trailer restrictions go into effect at midnight tonight.
