The Asian American Physicians Association (AAPA) of Western New York is proud to announce its new president for 2026 is Sunita Chadha, M.D., the founder of Western New York Rheumatology Center in Williamsville. Chadha succeeds Yellamraju Kumar, M.D., medical director of Alden Medical Group. Kumar was president for 2025.

As president, Chadha will represent the nearly 200 physician members of the AAPA,
where physicians of diverse backgrounds work together to deliver compassionate care
and pioneering solutions to shape the future of health care across Western New York.

“I look forward to connecting local physician leaders to enhance health care delivery and raise funds to support the community we serve while celebrating diversity,” Chadha said.
“I particularly want to support aspiring and early-career physicians in building valuable networks, cutting-edge research opportunities, and empowering mentorships.”

A native of India, Chadha has been a practicing physician for 25 years. After graduating from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine, she worked for six years as an internist, before going back to school to specialize in rheumatology. Now board-certified in rheumatology, Chadha could have opened a practice anywhere in the U.S., but she chose to stay in Western New York where her services are most needed.

Chadha is President of WNY Rheumatology, a private practice in Williamsville, where she spends most of her time performing clinical duties that include seeing patients, working alongside three midlevel providers, overseeing an infusion center, as well as teaching medical students and PA students.

Since 1984, the physicians of the Asian American Physicians Association (AAPA) have been an integral part of Western New York's health care landscape, committed to the betterment of both patients and the broader community. Asian Americans are 22% of the U.S. physician workforce, the largest racial/ethnic group after White Americans. For more information, visit www.aapawny.org or email wnyaapa@gmail.com.
