Press Release
Linda Grace will be the featured speaker at the first session of the Niagara Falls Book Circle (NFBC) to be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at the historic Tatler Club, 6 Fourth St., Niagara Falls. The event is free and open to the public.
Grace, a Niagara Falls native, will discuss her book, “Niagara, A Novel,” and lead a discussion of the story’s themes and inspirations. The book is a present-day mystery that explores the challenges of Niagarans who must navigate their lives against a backdrop of history and legend along one of the world’s most visited sites.
“The NFBC is a new group formed to bring together members of the community through books about Niagara Falls and books authored by Niagarans,” said Cherrish Beals, an organizer of the group that includes Dr. Hope L. Russell, Amie Redford and Will Redford. The group’s goal is to present monthly meetings featuring local authors at various locations in the city.
The Tatler Club building, built by Peter A. Porter for his family in 1876, sits along the upper rapids of the Niagara River. The Italianate-style building was purchased in 1956 by the Tatler Club, which was founded in 1925 as part of the national Women’s Club Movement – a social reform effort to enhance social justice and work to improve women’s rights and opportunities.
“The Tatler Club is honored to host the inaugural Niagara Falls Book Circle Event and we look forward to welcoming you,” said Ellen Joseph, current president. “Local history buffs, readers and supporters of our shared legacy will enjoy taking this journey together.”
