Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino press release
Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino is inviting hockey fans to enjoy Sabres fever with a pair of the team’s all-time greats.
Buffalo legends and former team captains Gilbert Perreault and Mike Foligno will be in attendance when Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino hosts a special free watch party for the Sabres-Pittsburgh Penguins game on Thursday, March 5, at Stir, the resort’s feature bar located adjacent to the gaming floor. Fans can catch all of the exciting action on Stir’s 43-foot, high-definition video wall and enjoy an arena-like atmosphere throughout the evening.
The fun starts at 6 p.m., with fan photo-ops and meet & greet opportunities with Perreault and Foligno (no autographs or outside merchandise permitted). Before face-off at 7 p.m., the two legends will bang the “Let’s Go Buffalo” drum to get the crowd fired up to watch Buffalo continue its post-season quest against the Penguins. The evening will feature plenty of off-ice energy and excitement, including a T-shirt toss, in-arena-style games and raffles and prizes. During the first intermission, Sabres in-arena host Courtney Corbetta will host a special Q&A session with Perreault and Foligno.
The party is open to fans aged 21 and older. Preregistration is required.
“We are bringing all of the excitement of a Buffalo home game to Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino for what promises to be one of the most exciting nights of the season,” said Steve McCarthy, vice president of operations, Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino. “We can’t wait to welcome Gilbert Perreault, Mike Foligno, and all of the fans who are ready to cheer on the Sabres and meet two of the best who ever played in Buffalo.”
“We know that Buffalo has the best fans anywhere, and Mike and I are ready to be part of the excitement on March 5,” Perreault said. “The hockey atmosphere in Buffalo is incredible, especially when the team is playing so well. Even though this is an away game, I’m sure the viewing party will feel like a home game. I’m excited to be there with the fans.”
Perreault and Foligno are two of the most accomplished and popular Sabres of all-time.
The team’s first ever draft pick, taken first overall in the 1970 draft, Perreault played his entire 17-year career in Buffalo. As the centerman of the team’s famed “French Connection” line, he thrilled hockey fans and terrorized opponents with his speed and stickhandling. Perreault remains the team’s all-time leader in games (1,191), goals (512), assists (814) and points (1,326). He was inducted into the Sabres Hall of fame in 1989 and into the Pro Hockey Hall of fame in 1990. His No. 11 was retired by the team in 1990, making Perreault the only player to wear the number in franchise history.
Foligno arrived in Buffalo in 1981 after a trade with Detroit. In parts of 10 seasons with the Sabres, he amassed 247 goals and 264 assists for 511 points. He ranks in the top 10 on the Sabres’ all-time lists for goals, points, penalty minutes, and game-winning goals. Foligno was a fan-favorite throughout his time in Buffalo, winning the team’s “Most Popular Player” award in five consecutive seasons. He was inducted into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
