Jim Slowey, a lifelong community advocate, dedicated public servant, and longtime labor professional, announced his candidacy for Niagara County Legislature representing District 12.

Over a 43-year career in the railroad industry, he served in both union and management roles, earning the respect of colleagues across all levels. His affiliations have included the Brotherhood of Firemen & Oilers, IAM and ARASA. In recognition of his commitment to safety and excellence, Slowey received the Amtrak Presidential Safety Achievement Award for work with the Amtrak empire safety committee.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Slowey has made a lasting impact on youth and community development in the Lockport area. He co-founded the Kenan soccer committee and went on to establish the Lockport Soccer Club, where he has served as president for 29 years. Slowey also served as the president of Lockport Little League and was a member of its board of directors for 19 years.

His commitment to public service extends into local government, where he currently serves as a member of the Town of Lockport Zoning Board of Appeals. He also holds leadership roles as vice president of the Lockport Cable Commission and treasurer of the LCTV board of directors.

“I’ve spent my life working for this community – on the job, in the field, behind the microphone, and in local government,” Slowey said. “I’m ready to bring that same dedication to the Niagara County Legislature. Together, we can build a stronger, safer, and more vibrant future for every resident.”
Slowey’s campaign will focus on strengthening local infrastructure, supporting working families, enhancing public safety, and promoting transparency and accountability in county government.
