Village of Lewiston approves events, levy of real property taxes

Trustees in the Village of Lewiston voted Monday to approve the following events:

•The Recreation Department will use Marilyn Toohey Park for the annual Spring Fling on Sunday, May 11.

In addition to staging activities around the Red Brick Municipal Building, at 145 N. Fourth St., organizers will close Onondaga Street, from North Third to North Fourth streets, from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. to accommodate the annual 1-mile race for children. The fun run will begin at 11 a.m., starting at North Second and Onondaga streets, heading east to North Fifth Street, north to Oneida Street, west to Rudlen Road, north to Mohawk Street, and west to North Third Street, ending south to Onondaga Street.

•Veterans of Foreign Wars Downriver Post 7487 will again stage a Memorial Day ceremony at the “Circle of Honor” following the Lewiston Memorial Day Parade. The VFW was granted use of Academy Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, May 26.

•YMCA Buffalo Niagara will hold yoga classes inside Academy Park from 10-11 a.m. on the following Sundays: June 1-29; July 6, 20 and 27; and Aug. 3-31.

Levy of real property taxes

The Village Board also approved a motion to authorize the levy of real property taxes for the 2025-26 tax warrant, directing Clerk Shannon Fundis to receive and collect taxes in the amount of $1,354,733; a re-levy of water and sewer charges in the amount of $23,251; and a miscellaneous re-levy of $915 for lawn care and city marshal service related to a property formally served for compliance issues; for a total warrant to collect $1,378,899, and to establish the tax rate at $8.354858 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.
