The Village of Lewiston is one step closer to an updated local waterfront revitalization program after the Board of Trustees voted Monday to issue a negative declaration on the State Environmental Quality Review related to the LWRP. The board's stated goal is to include more of the village in the program, so as to have the municipality qualify for New York State Department of State grants.

Rohan, the first woman elected to the post of national commander of The American Legion, will be honored by the Western New York 8th District of The American Legion at a banquet held at The American Legion Wheatfield Post 1451, 6525 Ward Road, Sanborn. The banquet will be held beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13.

St. Peter R.C. School has been formally accepted into Cohort 4 of the Buffalo Diocese STREAM initiative. "STREAM" is an integrated approach to education that brings science, technology, religion, engineering the arts and mathematics to all students in all grades. The goal is to better prepare students for successful careers in the 21st century workforce.

The 28th annual Lewiston Porter/Niagara Pioneer alumni soccer game will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, on the Lewiston-Porter Central School District campus on Creek Road in Lewiston. Old Fort Niagara in Youngstown is seeking individuals who would be interested in helping out with uniform production and repair on a volunteer basis. OFN would like these volunteers to commit, at minimum, to one day per month. These individuals would take direction from Suzannah Emerson, and need the following skills.

On Thursday, Sept. 21, the Western New York Land Conservancy will host a special history walk at the Stella Niagara Preserve in Lewiston. The hike will take place at 5:30 p.m. and will be led by Karen Noonan, a member of the Town of Porter Historical Society and the Youngstown Heritage Tours and Tourism Committee. Noonan is also the co-author of "From the Mouth of the Lower Niagara River: Stories of Four Historic Communities."

The 34th annual Lewiston Harvest Festival and Craft Show will take place from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 23-24. This year, there's a big change to the festival: Center Street will be closed from Fourth to Seventh streets. Vendors will be set up in the street to ease congestion for attendees and allow more room throughout the festival, leaving areas in front of retail storefronts open for customers.

Mount St. Mary's Hospital held a press conference Tuesday afternoon to announce it is the recipient of an $825,200 grant from the New York State Health Care Facility Transformation Program. Funding will support the expansion of the hospital's Clearview treatment services, a confidential, inpatient rehabilitation program dedicated to the holistic care of people whose lives have been affected by drugs and/or alcohol.

The Niagara Falls National Heritage Area has announced its sponsorship of field trips for school districts to Old Fort Niagara's "Fridays on the Frontier" program for the third year in a row. "Fridays on the Frontier" are interactive hands-on education programs for fourth- and seventh-graders that immerse students in the experiences of people who lived in the Niagara Region during the American Revolution. The programs will take place every Friday during the month of October.
