Artpark and Funtime on Monday announced the first concert of the new "Coors Light Concerts at Artpark" series scheduled for Artpark's Outdoor Amphitheater. 311 will appear in concert on Monday, July 10, at the Amphitheater stage as part of WEDG-FM 103.3 "The Edge" "Edgefest: The Series." Also on the bill will be special guests New Politics and The Skints.

Participating nonprofit organizations, their boards and individual donors will help kick off the fifth annual "Spring It On," a 24-hour online fundraising event powered by the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County that takes place March 14-15. A kickoff happy hour event will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Big Ditch Brewing Co., 55 E. Huron St., Buffalo. It is free and open to the public.

In preparation for the upcoming boating season, U.S. Coast Guard Flotilla 3-1 will be offering a series of "About Boating Safety" one-day classes this spring and summer, taught by certified instructors. Classes will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays, March 25, April 29, May 13, June 10 and July 15, in the Officers Club at Fort Niagara State Park in Youngstown.

Old Fort Niagara field musicians will participate in the Youngstown St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday, March 18, starting at noon, in the village. The musicians will play the fifes and drums and wear, for the first time, the waistcoats sewn by Niagara University students during the fall 2016 semester.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced work has begun on a series of transformational enhancements at Fort Niagara State Park in Youngstown. The work underway includes a brand-new, $2.7-million pool bathhouse and new boat docks for the 830,000-plus visitors who frequent the popular Niagara County state park every year.

The Lewiston Choraleers will present an Easter cantata at four area churches April 8, 9, 14 and 15. The cantata, "A Journey to Hope" by Joseph Martin, is a sacred work musically inspired by traditional spirituals and tells of the ministry, passion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Late last year while collecting for Cans For Food, Lewiston resident Angelo Sarkees found a jar full of pennies. Instead of just cashing in the pennies, he decided to have a contest to raise some more money for the local food pantries.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Thursday announced a $460 million project to upgrade the Lewiston Pump-Generating Plant has officially reached the halfway mark. The multiyear plant modernization project allows the New York Power Authority to continue to provide low-cost power to businesses in the region, generating nearly $33 billion in capital investments to the state's economy.

Representing their organizations were Dr. Sam Pappalardo of Camp Hope, and Nancy Smith of the Dale Association. Both organizations received a monetary donation from the Lewiston Community Lions in support of their work within the community.

Applications are now available for the 51st annual Lewiston Art Festival, which will be held Saturday, Aug. 12, and Sunday, Aug. 13, in the Village of Lewiston. More than 175 professional artists will display and sell their work and compete for $5,000 in prizes in the juried show.

On behalf of the Historical Association of Lewiston and its board of directors, happy birthday Sentinel! The Sentinel's first edition was issued Feb. 14, 1987, and actually had the title of "We Need A Name!" It was since that very first edition that the HAL started its long relationship with the Sentinel, when we placed our member meeting notice in it for a historian to speak about the history of Lundy's Lane.
