State Sen. Rob Ortt today delivered a check in the amount of $20,000 to help the Youngstown Police Department better protect residents and operate more effectively. Ortt secured the state funding to assist the department with the purchase of one new, state-of-the-art police cruiser.

Member of the Kiwanis Club of Lewiston spent Saturday morning painting the grandstands in Academy Park on Center Street in Lewiston in preparation for the Niagara County Peach Festival. The annual event will be held Sept. 11-13 at Academy Park.

Old Fort Niagara will honor Terry Yonker, a devoted volunteer, lighthouse keeper and naturalist who passed away in April, with a reception and plaque dedication at 11 a.m. Friday at the Old Fort Niagara lighthouse.
