Troop 829 Scouts and their Scoutmaster teamed up with members of the Youngstown Lions Club Saturday to clean the big ditches at the corner of Carrollwood and Glenvale roads in Youngstown.

On Wednesday, May 13, the Lewiston-Porter boys tennis team defeated Kenmore East by a score of 5-0. With the win, the Lancers completed a near perfect season with a 13-1 record, and officially earned the Niagara Frontier League championship.

Samantha Tremko lost her mom suddenly when she was just 7 years old.
Her family was just settling down from a family vacation in Florida, making the long drive home to North Tonawanda. After dropping grandparents off at their home, Samantha's mom, Robin, suffered a blood clot to the heart.
Samantha's whole world suddenly changed.

With just over 1,300 voters coming out to cast their ballot, the Lewiston Porter School District $41.2 million spending plan was passed. The vote, unofficial and without absentee votes counted, was 926 in favor, and 439 against.

The official numbers from the Youngstown Village elections trustee and mayoral races are in. Raleigh Reynolds succeeded in winning his first full term as mayor, with 328 votes, 72 more than Republican mayoral nominee Norman Swann.

It's been a challenging undertaking, but stabilization and restoration efforts are underway for the historic Flight of Five locks in Lockport. On Tuesday, May 27, at 7 p.m., the Historical Association of Lewiston will offer a program about the three generations of Erie Canal development, and the resulting construction, demolition and restoration of three eras of Erie Canal locks designed to enable navigation over Niagara's indomitable escarpment.

The Niagara County Industrial Development Agency board of directors has approved applications for assistance from Reid Petroleum Corp., Irr Supply Centers Inc. and 765 Fairfield Place LLC.
"It's always a positive sign when a company makes an investment in existing infrastructure as it usually means the company is here for the long-term," said Henry M. Sloma, NCIDA chairman. "In this instance, all three of the applicants are making significant financial investments, which will result in a positive economic impact throughout Niagara County - especially in terms of job retention and new job creation."

A 12-hour standoff Sunday ended with a Village of Lewiston resident taken into custody. Leonard A. Zientara, 51, of 430 West Lane, surrendered himself to New York State Police after allegedly setting his house on fire.

In honor of the many brave troops serving this nation overseas, Assemblywoman Jane Corwin is partnering with Congressman Chris Collins, State Sen. George Maziarz, the Blue Star Mothers, Boy Scouts of America and a number of local grocery stores to collect items for care packages to send to the men and women stationed in remote areas around the globe. This inaugural "Support Our Troops" drive is open to the public to make contributions through May and June.
"As Memorial Day approaches, I am hopeful that our community will take time to reflect on the many freedoms that we have as Americans, and the price of that freedom, as we remember and honor those who have sacrificed so much to defend our way of life," Corwin said.

The Friends of the Youngstown Free Library invites the community to support its next fundraiser on Monday, May 19, at Bandana's Bar and Grill, 930 Lake Road, in Porter. The restaurant is giving 10 percent of the sales of meals eaten in the dining room and patio that day to the Friends to benefit the library. This includes breakfast, lunch and dinner from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
