The Lewiston Democratic Committee has announced it will be honoring Town of Lewiston Supervisor Dennis Brochey as its Lewiston Democrat of the Year for 2014 at a brunch on Sunday, April 6, at the Niagara Falls Country Club.

Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue has been awarded an $899 grant from the Petco Foundation to be used for rescue dogs and foster behavioral training. The grant will enable the organization to obtain behavior and obedience training, which ultimately helps in the adoption process.

Despite some rumors to the contrary heard over the past week around Lewiston, the Lewiston Town Board acted in a spirit of cooperation and uniformity Monday when they moved to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of member Ernest Palmer. It was announced the Lewiston Town Clerk's office would be taking letters of interest and applications from town residents for the position up to March 5.

Trustees in the Village of Lewiston voted Tuesday to amend a portion of the municipal law dealing with sign regulations. The most notable changes include prohibition of A-frame or "sandwich board" signs, and stronger language banning flashing electronic and neon lights.

It was so popular that, in 1813, when Lewiston was burned by British forces in retaliation for the U.S. attack on Niagara-On-The-Lake, Hustler's Tavern was the only building spared.

Mount St. Mary's Hospital has received full accreditation status from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care as a "chest pain" center. Mount St. Mary's is the only hospital in Niagara County with this prestigious accreditation and one of only two in all of Western New York.
