The fifth annual Jason Raby Memorial 5K Race and one-mile Fun Walk is being held at Lewiston-Porter Senior High School on Saturday, July 27, at 11 a.m. The event will be held in honor of Jason Raby, who graduated from Lewiston-Porter High School in 2001 and suddenly passed away at the young age of 25 while playing basketball at Niagara University in 2008.

Inclement weather last weekend cancelled the Our Lady of Peace Cruisers Day. The event, held in conjunction with Cataract Cruises of WNY, has now been rescheduled. The "Super Cruise" is set for Sunday, July 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the facility, 5285 Lewiston Road in Lewiston.

Electricity gradually returned Saturday afternoon and evening to the homes of National Grid customers in Niagara County that were dark following Friday's storm.
As of 9:30 p.m., less than 1,000 homes were waiting to receive electricity. Just 12 hours earlier, more than 5,000 homes in Lewiston alone were without power. National Grid reported that, at the storm's peak, about 75,000 customers in upstate New York were left in the dark. About 28,500 customers were in the Western New York region - primarily in Erie and Niagara counties.

On Saturday, Sept. 7, St. Peter's School in Lewiston will host a celebration to commemorate the 60 years of academic excellence and prestige that it has maintained. The event will begin at 4 p.m. at St. Peter's R.C. Church, where a Mass will be held. It will be followed by a reception at the nearby Barton Hill Hotel & Spa.
Food and refreshments will be available, and an evening program will feature a number of festivities. Alumni, former students, parents, faculty, and those who have shared an experience with St. Peter's are welcome to attend.

Recreational funding occupied portions of what was otherwise a low-key Town of Porter Board meeting, earlier this month at Town Hall. While certainly not on the level in the Town of Lewiston, which this week saw its referendum proposal for a multi-million recreation center go down to defeat, the funding discussions did create some waves.

For the past 19 years, spectators have come to enjoy the Fly Over Niagara Remote Control Airshow. Hosted by The Wing and Rotor Flying Club of WNY, this event started as a way for remote control airplane enthusiasts to do what they love and for the public to understand the skill of this hobby.

Trustees in the Village of Lewiston approved a development plan for 765 Fairchild Place, site of the former Fairchild Manor, at Monday's monthly board meeting. Goldin Management, a Brooklyn-based property management firm, recently purchased the $1.66-million, almost 1.6-acre property and will convert it into 24 condominium units.
