NU cancels Tuesday evening classes

Due to the possible extreme conditions, the university is canceling all classes scheduled to begin after 4 p.m. today. In addition, all university offices will also close at 4 p.m. to allow employees ample time to commute before the wind warning takes effect. Because of this, the fall community meeting scheduled for today will be postponed to Monday, Nov. 5, at 3:30 p.m.

Lewiston-Porter High School sets 4th annual Veterans Day Dinner

Lewiston-Porter High School Junior ROTC will be hosting a dinner and basket raffle in honor of all veterans in the Lewiston-Porter area. The dinner will be held Friday, Nov. 9, in the high school cafeteria beginning at 5:30 p.m. A short program will begin at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. The dinner is free for all veterans and a guest and $5 for additional guests.

Topics at Monday's Porter Town Board meeting included recycling, 2013 budget talks, chamber funding and zoning. But the biggest matter by far came from residents concerned about a possible closing of W.H. Stevenson Elementary School in Ransomville by the Wilson Central School District.

Debbie Parker, Candy Ingwersen and other Ransomville residents told the board of the possibility. It will be "financially devastating to Ransomville," said Parker.
