Lewiston Town Board session topics mundane, but relevant

Olde Sanborn Days, an annual local old-fashioned country fair and craft show sponsored by the Niagara County Central Rotary, returns on Saturday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, July 10, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Presented in partnership with the Lewiston Council on the Arts, the event will be held on the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co. grounds, 5811 Buffalo St., Route 429 in Sanborn.
Mount St. Mary's receives Kiwanis donation

The chairmen of the annual Kiwanis clambake recently presented a check to the Mount St. Mary's Foundation from the proceeds generated at the annual event, which was sponsored by Modern Corporation. The donation is given in memory of the late Steve Washuta, the founder of Modern, and the funds will be used at the Steve Washuta Cardiac Center at Mount St. Mary's Hospital.

Lewiston-Porter Middle School students recently donated $1,333 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure in the fight to end breast cancer. Lead by the eighth-grade student council (shown left), students conducted several fundraising activities, including selling pink lollipops, pink bracelets, and organizing a "pink day" at school. The hallways at Lewiston-Porter Middle School also were decorated with pink snowflakes.

Summerfest is Sunday in Town of Porter

The fourth annual fundraiser for the Porter on the Lake Park will be held on Sunday, July 3. In previous years, this event was held on Labor Day and referred to as Porter on the Lake Fest. The event was re-named and the date was changed to accommodate the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Co.'s Labor Day Field Days, which is returning this year.

New York Lottery awards $10,000 prize to Lewiston Powerball winner

Beautiful new landscaping at Youngstown gazebo

The Youngstown Garden Club announced the completion of a newly funded garden project. The artfully designed landscaping at the gazebo on Main Street recently received an extreme makeover consisting of new plants, perennials and flowers. The project was funded by the Village of Youngstown and the Youngstown Garden Club, and implemented by Faery's Nursery.

Richard P. Pope, director of the Niagara County Refuse Disposal District, and members of his team were in Lewiston last Saturday for a pharmaceutical collection event at the Red Brick Municipal Building. From 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., unwanted pills were collected, stored and then later shipped to Covanta Energy for incineration.

Ceretto passes legislation to promote local wineries

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, tonight helped pass legislation (A.7622) that will promote local wines and wineries. The bill allows smaller wineries, those that produce less than 150,000 gallons a year, to sell wine at outdoor and indoor events and gatherings by issuing them a temporary permit through the New York State Liquor Authority for a fee of $26.

Once there, she bumped into some friends, Mike and Mia, who suggested they all hang out post-concert at Lewiston's newest establishment, Hops-N-Vines.
Lew-Port students promote kindness

What started with a motivational speech at the end of March ended Monday with a giant paper chain wrapped around the Lewiston-Porter Intermediate Education Center parking lot. Students assembled a 534-foot-long chain and shouted, "We are kind!"

Porter Town Board hears boating, water woes

Water-related quality of life issues set the tone for much of Monday's Porter Town Board regular meeting. Heard was continuing frustration of boat and property owners over a nagging town law covering storage and locations of boats and recreational vehicles. Also heard was a complaint by a Brentwood Drive resident over a years-old flooding problem and the town's inability thus far to correct it.
