Fort Niagara holds 'Winter Camp for Kids'

Old Fort Niagara held its popular "Winter Camp for Kids" on the fort grounds, Feb. 22-24. The sold-out camp offered area youngsters a chance to experience life 250 years ago and learn some of the skills needed to survive without modern conveniences.

Dixon was honored for her 60 years of dedication and service to Lewiston while residing with her husband, Harry, on South Seventh Street since 1950.

Lew-Port Builders Club to hold food drive

Students from the Lewiston-Porter Builders Club will hold a food drive from March 1 until March 15. Club Adviser Tina Oddy reports that collection sites for non-perishable food donations are located in the clerk's offices of the Town of Porter, the Town of Lewiston, the Village of Lewiston, and the Village of Youngstown. Donations will also be collected in the library at Lewiston-Porter Middle School. All donations will benefit the Magdalene Project Soup Kitchen located at Old St. George's Church on 19th and Falls streets in Niagara Falls.

Neither proposal was included in the governor's proposed spending plan issued on Feb. 1.

Lewiston-Porter School District students, like tens of thousands of others in Erie and Niagara counties, were treated to a day off Wednesday, as Lew-Port school officials opted to heed the warnings posted by the National Weather Service of a monstrous winter storm, one that was well forecasted, but never materialized.

Forecasts of a monstrous, paralyzing snowstorm Tuesday by the National Weather Service and on local newscasts, which resulted in massive closings and cancellations Wednesday in Erie and Niagara counties, for the most part failed to materialize.
