The First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston will salute the 2024 Northwest Jazz Festival by hosting a special jazz service at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 25. The event is open to the public.

Art was on display in Lewiston this weekend - and people came out in droves to catch a glimpse of a "crashed satellite," gaze at unbelievable tree faces, and be amazed by a circus act in a food truck - and that was just Friday night! Saturday and Sunday brought the Lewiston Art Festival - and what appeared to be record attendance, with wall-to-wall crowds strolling Center Street.

On Friday night, the Village of Lewiston Recreation Department hosted a touch-a-truck event outside of the Red Brick Municipal Building. Families and children could explore vehicles from participants including Modern Disposal and the Lewiston Police Department.

The Niagara County Department of Health confirmed a rabid bat on Wilson-Burt Road, Town of Wilson, on Aug. 8. The bat was found outdoors on Aug. 4. No pets were implicated. The Niagara County nursing division will assess any possible human exposure and recommend any post-exposure rabies treatment as appropriate.

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced Martice D. Porter, age 22, of Niagara Falls, plead guilty in County Court to the crime of rape in the third degree. Porter admitted to having sexual intercourse with an underage female in 2023.

NFPD find woman injured on road

On Aug. 5, at approximately 1:20 a.m., Niagara Falls Police received a call of an injured woman in the roadway at 22nd Street and Niagara Avenue. Responding officers discovered a 50-year-old Niagara Falls woman with life-threatening injuries. It appears she was operating an e-bike when she was struck by a vehicle that left the scene of the crash.
